Judy F. Moon welcomes you to the office of the
Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphan's Court of Carbon County.
Judy Moon has served this office as Clerk and Chief Deputy from 1981 until
1994, and was elected Register of Wills in 1995. The office is located on the
first floor of the Carbon County Court House

The ARCHIVES
DEPARTMENT is located at 44 Susquehanna St., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229. Phone
(570) 325-5713. In a joint effort with our office, the above records have been
indexed and microfilmed and are available for public viewing and copying in the
Archives Department.
Marriage License
Information
The Marriage License
Bureau is part of the Clerk of the Orhpans Court. The following are the legal
requirements for obtaining a marriage license in Carbon County:
REQUIREMENTS FOR MARRIAGE
LICENSE APPLICANTS
- The required age
is 18 years. Consent of a
parent/guardian is needed if either applicant
is younger.
- Blood tests and
physicals have been waived in the State of Pennsylvania.
- You may apply in
any one of the 67 counties to be married in Pennsylvania.
- Pennsylvania law
requires that a couple consist of one male and one female. Both male and female need to be present
to supply personal information and to sign the application.
- A valid, photo
driver’s license; state certified photo ID; or Passport are needed
for identification.
- Additional
information required at time of application includes: applicant’s Social Security number,
education level attained and present occupation.
- Pennsylvania
requires the following family history information for the purpose of
genealogy: full names of parents,
mothers’ maiden names, place of birth of parents (city and state), current
residence of parents (city and state), and occupation of parents.
- In the event of
a second (or more) marriage, proof of death record and/or original divorce
decree with a raised seal or certified copy from the county in which the
proceeding took place is needed.
Photocopies ARE NOT acceptable. If the female applicant has retaken
her maiden name, documentation must be presented as proof.
- After the
application is filed, there is a three-day waiting period before the
license is issued. The license is
good anywhere in Pennsylvania for 60 days from the issue date. It is suggested that you apply 2-4 weeks
prior to the marriage date.
- With the
exception of observed holidays by the county, our office accepts
applications Monday through Friday, 8:30AM to 3:45PM, including during the
lunch hour. If you have any
